Everyday Magic

Fall took her sweet time arriving in North Carolina this year. October started off with days that felt like July, hitting a record breaking 99 degrees before finally cooling off. The timing of the cooler weather coincided with a teacher workday, which made for a perfect day for a pumpkin patch adventure.

Taking my boys on adventures is one of my favorite things, and I document our adventures thoroughly. I love to experience new things with them and see them explore the world. What I love most though, is watching them interact with each other.

They have wild imaginations, the oldest two, and I love to watch them run together into a world of their imagining. Sometimes, they sweep the baby in too, content and unsuspecting of the part he is playing in their drama, thrilled to have the attention of his big brothers. Occasionally they invite me into their world, allowing me to step out of the role of responsibility momentarily and experience the magic of childhood through their eyes.

Nothing melts my heart more than when they stop to check on and encourage each other, watching their excitement at pointing out an animal or the perfect pumpkin, or maybe an imaginary cowboy on the horizon.

I snap photo after photo, my camera roll overflowing with the proof of our adventures, knowing that this season is fleeting. Before long the blaze of autumn leaves will turn to the empty trees of winter and my boys will be just a little bit older.

So I watch and smile and snap away, trying my best to capture the every day magic of these moments.
